Hello! I'm Samuel Chang.
I am currently a third-year Ph.D. candidate in accounting and Ernest R. Wish Research Fellow at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. I received a master of accounting with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a bachelor of science in mathematical economics with a minor in finance summa cum laude from Western Kentucky University's Gordon Ford College of Business. I am also a licensed CPA in the state of Tennessee.
My current research focuses on how corporate responsibility (or the lack thereof) impacts local communities in both developing and developed economies. In developing economies, my research has explored how multinational corporations in the extractive industries (i.e., mining and petroleum) have influenced the lives of people in Africa, from shifting areas of violent conflict to reducing local pollution. In developed economies, my research is centered around how bank and corporate misconduct influence the financial decision-making of local stakeholders.
Outside of academics, I enjoy playing the piano, for which I won the 2019 KY Bluegrass Tournament Junior State Championship. I also serve as the Mandarin choir director for the Chinese Christian Union Church in Chinatown. Additionally, I play tennis in my spare time.
